We've been thinking about robots

Uniphy's any-surface sensing lets a robot's outer skin be designed for warmth and aesthetics, without giving up tactile sensing.


The challenge in designing a robot outer skin is structural and aesthetic. For most sensing approaches, that duality ends in compromise: the outer material must suit the sensor, so the aesthetics lose out.

At Uniphy we've cracked "any surface sensing," using our proprietary combination of optics, electronics and algorithms. The outer surface can now be specified for the right reasons.

Consider a robot helping someone through stroke rehabilitation. It needs to read grip, adjust force, sense hesitation. It also needs to be something a person reaches for willingly: not clinical, not cold. Until now, you couldn't have both.
